Like most things in life, it comes with some patience and consistent application. It’s important to fully integrate this step-by-step program into the day to day running of the business so that it becomes seamless and results are consistent and of a high quality.
How exactly did this process come about? After crunching the numbers and analysing the data from hundreds of companies, successful and less so, it became obvious when an SEO strategy was working well and when it was failing. Their success was underpinned by the following steps being found in their strategies.
Step One: Keyword Analysis
This is the most important step in ensuring a successful SEO strategy and is really the make or break point for most businesses. Keyword analysis is not just about looking at how your own strategies are doing and at what keywords are generating page views but also about seeing what your competitors are doing. Check to see how specific keywords are working for them as it’ll provide a valuable insight into your own strategy with less risk.
This is an important step so don’t miss it out: your entire SEO strategy will be underpinned by your findings from keyword analysis.
Step Two: Content Pages
The most brilliant marketing strategy will fall flat if it’s not actually used. Your analysis from step one should at this point help you see which pages are doing well for your strategy and which ones need improving. Analysis should also have identified where you are missing content and if you were missing out on niches which could generate page views. Now we found that you can either generate new landing pages or generate a whole new block of content in response to something you’ve seen your competitors succeed with. Yes, this does mean a whole lot of content writing, but it’s worth it.
Step Three: Links Links Links
You might have heard of backlinking and here’s how it plays its part. Once your content is up, make sure to link your pages together internally (this is called interlinking). This is because Google can index all the pages which have information relevant to a single keyword more quickly. Since it’ll find that your site has many pages with a lot of relevant information it’ll bring the site up higher in searches (on all major search engines).
Checking to see how your pages are performing after this step is a good way of tracking successful links and saves a lot of unnecessary hassle later. This will perhaps make more sense when you read the next steps.
Steps Four and Five: Building Authority through Content Marketing
This is the point where someone else must do some work to make your pages take off. Linking internally is important but having other websites link to your page is how your web-pages really gain authority; someone else is giving you the stamp of approval. The quality of the pages which link to yours are crucial so if you do this make sure to vet any website that links to yours very carefully as it will reflect on what sort of site you run and how reliable the content you provide seems. This part is difficult to pull off well and means providing useful and reliable content which other users will link to. Again, it boils down to how successful your keywords are.
After this you can choose to optimize and refine your pages further and link specific keywords to specific pages more closely. A successful SEO strategy is built upon structure and once that is in place your content will be selling itself. Not only that but having a structure in place will free up your time so you can focus on more important things.
